8:30 - 10:30 pm

The Canada 150 Star Party at the University of Toronto will take place on Saturday, July 29, 2017. Join us for this FREE telescope viewing night! If it is clear, you will be able to observe a first quarter Moon and the planets Saturn and Jupiter. Even the International Space Station will make a pass or two that night. We will be handing out Dunlap eclipse glasses that can be used for the upcoming solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. Plus, there will be plenty of U of T astronomers on hand to answer your questions.

This first ever National Star Party, sponsored by  the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) and the Fédération des Astronomes Amateurs du Québec (FAAQ), is being held to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday since Confederation. On this day, astronomy clubs from coast to coast to coast will hold public star parties for the Canadian public at the same time. The Dunlap Institute is proud to be a participant in this national event.

Please note that in the event of extreme weather (very heavy rain or lightning storms) the event may be cancelled. Please check back on the day of the event for updates.

This is a non-smoking event. Please no pets allowed. No food or drink (or gum) allowed on the field. Please no shoes with cleats or high heels are allowed on the field where the event is taking place.

The Canada 150 Star Party at the University of Toronto is sponsored and organized by the Dunlap Institute with volunteers from the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, and the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
